Specialty Services
Dr Kortz specializes in the more complex general surgical procedures not performed by most general surgeons. This subspecialty is referred to as Complex Hepatobiliary surgery. Procedures include liver resections (open and laparoscopic), bile duct reconstructions, and pancreas resections.  Dr. Kortz is also specially trained and experienced in liver and kidney transplantation.

Causes of these complex diseases may include cancer, injury, chronic inflammatory diseases or tumor growths (benign or malignant).  Treatment options include surgery, interventional radiology procedures, endoscopic procedures, or medical-oncologic treatments.

Complex problems involving the liver and pancreas require close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to determine the best course of therapy for each individual. Surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, and other health care professionals form a comprehensive, collaborative team. Dr. Kortz is a leader in this integrated approach, participating in multidisciplinary conferences on a weekly basis.
